Goole film-makers get Hollywood nominations

Two young directors from Goole, who took part in a film-making project at Junction last Spring, have had their films nominated in the Youth Fest category of the prestigious Hollywood International Family Film Festival.

Harvey Griffin (aged 15) directed a short film entitled Going Up, which also featured young crew members and young actors from Goole. Harvey is pleased to have been nominated and, as there appears to be only one nomination in the Comedy category, looks set to scoop the award.

Volatile Light

IOU created a mesmerizing mechanical sound and light environment in collaboration with artist Liz Dees, electronic music composer Dan Morrison and machine sculptors Jim Bond and Andy Plant.

In the darkened rooms of Junction, moving pinpoints of coloured light were transformed into vivid pictures. Lights attached to specially created machines created ever-shifting patterns; triggering sounds and music, created and mixed live over three days.

An Interval

A performance by Junction's Adult Drama Group...

An Interval was a performance about comedy, about entertainment, about theatre. Largely improvised, the show was structured around a simple set of rules, in which the performers attempted to tell a seemingly endless list of jokes. Without a preset order, and without a script, the performers had to push themselves to keep the show moving and to keep the jokes flowing; if they failed, the show would fail. This was a performance about risk, about chance encounters, about the ever present possibility (perhaps inevitability) of failure.

Opening Day...

Junction, Goole’s brand new purpose-built arts centre officially opened its doors on Saturday, 7th November 2009. With literally thousands of people turning up to see performances, watch short films, have a drink in the café bar or just have a nosey at what Junction is all about, the day was an overwhelming success. Reporters came from all over the region, and there was even a BBC film crew on site. The packed out building had people intrigued and excited and there was a real community atmosphere to the place.
