Join acclaimed pianist, “unsung hero of the classical world” (Thoroughly Good), Tim Horton for a journey through Beethoven’s staggering achievements for piano, including two of his most iconic works.
The Pathétique is one of Beethoven’s best-known works, with its explosive opening and beautiful slow movement. The Moonlight Sonata needs no introduction. It is one of the most recognisable pieces of music ever written. But hearing them performed live, by a pianist, is something special.
Alongside the familiar favourites are three sonatas that may be new to you, offering a chance to discover Beethoven’s wit, imagination and sheer musical invention. From playful and mischievous to dramatic, powerful and deeply moving, these are works that show the complete range of Beethoven’s genius in one evening of music for solo piano.
With his familiar commitment, rigour and effortless playing, Tim Horton is taking on the monumental feat of performing Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas in a series of concerts around the country. This concert in Goole is the latest stop on that journey.
You don’t need to know your Beethoven. Just come along, take a seat and listen as Tim Horton performs these magical pieces up-close, live, and in-the-round including spoken introductions to the pieces giving context to the wonderful music.
