Winning Best Picture at the 2019 Oscars, Green Book tells the true story of the unlikely friendship that developed between Dr. Shirley, a world class African-American pianist, and Tony ‘Lip’ Vallelonga, a tough-talking Italian-American bouncer. When his nightclub is closed for renovations, Tony takes a job as a driver and personal bodyguard for Dr Shirley’s tour of the Deep South, armed with the Green Book; a travel guide for safe travel through America’s racially segregated states. Tony’s uncultured behavior clashes with Don’s sophisticated demeanor, but the pair begin to bond as Tony becomes increasingly impressed with Don’s talent and disgusted by the discriminatory treatment her receives. Their friendship would change both their lives in this thoughtful comedy about race relations in 1960s America.
