The most-watched NT Live production of all time returns to the big screen.
Filmed live from the Harold Pinter Theatre in 2022. By Suzie Miller, Directed by Justin Martin. Starring Jodie Comer.
Tessa is a young, brilliant barrister. She has worked her way up from working class origins to be at the top of her game; defending; cross examining and winning. An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge.
Prima Facie takes us to the heart of where emotion and experience collide with the rules of the game.
Jodie Comer won at the Olivier Awards, Tony Awards, WhatsOnStage Awards, Evening Standard Theatre Awards, The Stage Debut Awards and more for her performance – and Prima Facie won Best Play at the Olivier Awards.

There is use of strong language and scenes of sexual violence.
There is a scene of sexual violence in which a female character reenacts the night she was raped by male colleague. This includes a focus on her distress, helplessness and a detailed description of the attacker restraining her arms and covering her mouth. The details of the assault are repeated in subsequent scenes when the character reports the rape to police and is cross-examined by a criminal defence barrister.
There are moderate sex references, a scene of threat in which a traumatised sexual assault survivor is accosted by her attacker in the workplace, and moments of emotional upset.
“West End debuts don’t come much more astonishing than this.”
“Jodie Comer’s stage debut is nothing short of extraordinary”
