Each year Junction works with a local primary school and gives them a two-week window to programme the work they’d like to see Junction promote.
This year, with Kingsway Primary School Year 6 pupils, two facilitators supported the pupils in selecting their theme and discussing what kind of performances would attract a wide variety of audiences. Classes explored a whole range of performances from theatre to dance, circus to comedy and selected their favourites to create a unique 11-day festival.
Developing the festival since November last year, over 60 Year 6 pupils at Kingsway School have taken over Goole’s theatre – Junction – and the nearby West Park for a season of work inspired by their chosen theme of Time Travel.
Including indoor and outdoor performances families are encouraged to come along and meet an astronaut from the future, hear stories from ancient Greece, take part in a tea dance celebrating the music of yesteryear and more.
Pupils took part in various workshops with Junction to learn about programming events, discover budgeting and marketing and even try out some production skills including creating a brochure for print and recording a podcast.
