Every year, Junction works with one Goole based school to put on the Takeover Festival. For two weeks each March we don’t programme any films, workshops, artwork or live shows, the children do! Working with up to two classes of children from September through to March, the children choose the shows and films, and develop a programme of events on their chosen theme.
In the lead up to the festival, children write to other schools to tell them about the festival, write press releases, monitor ticket sales and conduct media interviews. During the festival children have the opportunity of daytime placements at Junction (supported by the school) and can also volunteer to do placements in their own time in roles such as Box Office, Ushering, Film Projection and Technical, all supported by Junction staff.
If you would like an informal discussion about the project, or to read evaluations of past festivals, please contact Nicola Dixon.
